Dated record and current qualifications

Primary-document fact

Kelly’s first election is not his current term date

First election year, not an exact service-start date · 2002

The district’s legacy trustee biography says Kelly was first elected to the GUHSD board in 2002. Its old clerk title and fourth-term description are historical, not current office or tenure calculations. The current directory lists Kelly as a member for the 2022–26 term.

Historical accountability: a 2008 resignation call

Historical news conference, not 2026 news · 2008-10-22

An October 23, 2008 Union-Tribune article reports Kelly called for two colleagues to resign at a news conference the previous day, also attended by then-candidate Gary Woods. This is historical context only. It does not imply Kelly or Woods committed the underlying sexual offenses discussed in that article or equate separate controversies.

The earlier recall effort is historical

November petition outcome; reported December 5 · 2025-11

KPBS reported on December 5, 2025 that the petition effort targeting Eckert did not gather the required signatures and organizers did not submit the petition in November. Legacy recall links and the removal-video URL are retained as historical advocacy resources, not evidence that a recall election is currently scheduled.

Response / later development

Eckert told KPBS his focus remained on district work and student opportunities. Woods described the effort’s defeat as support for the board; organizers said they would focus on the 2026 elections. These are historical positions, not this site’s assessment of current electoral support.

Opinion

Opinion is not an official finding

Opinion publication dates: October 5, 2026 and June 24, 2025

Chris Fite, a GUHSD trustee, argued in an October 5, 2026 opinion column that Kelly and Woods should leave office. Jay Steiger, a teacher, parent and 2024 Area 2 candidate, called for resignation or recall in a June 24, 2025 opinion column. These are attributed opinions, not newspaper editorial-board endorsements or independent legal findings.
